What is New England IPA?
Taking the craft beer world by storm, the New England IPA is a double dry hopped brew that is more aromatic and less bitter than its West Coast IPA counterpart. New England IPAs are known for their hazy, unfiltered orange color, pillowy mouth feel and blast of juicy, tropical aromas.
New England IPAs at Hopsters
At Hopsters, we’re obsessed with top-quality New England IPAs, so we brew two of our very own — the Newtonian and Comet Citra — at our Newton brewpub to ensure peak freshness in every sip. Through continual experimentation with new hop flavor profiles, we aim to raise the standard of the New England IPA category and introduce more beer fans to these special brews.

Comet Citra
A balanced New England IPA that effortlessly blends the tart bitterness of Comet hops with the juicy, tropical aromas of Citra hops. Together with Two-Row and White Wheat malts, this beer provides an upfront splash of bright grapefruit and luscious undertones of tropical mango and papaya fruits.
ABV: 5.5% ABV, 15 IBUs

Newtonian
A double hopped IPA juice bomb bursting with bright flavor. This beer boasts strong hoppy citrus and tropical aromas from Citra and Amarillo hops that are balanced with the fruit and spice of Galena hops. The Newtonian drinks intensely with the fruit and floral notes of mango, grapefruit, pineapple, melon and peach, and finishes with a soft, silky mouth feel.
ABV: 8.4% ABV, 55 IBUs
NEIPA Brewing Process
To achieve the coveted haze and juicy flavor of a New England IPA, we use a large amount of hops throughout the brewing process. Once the yeast is filtered out of the IPA, we add more hops during the fermentation phase, also known as dry hopping. After two days fermenting, the beer undergoes an additional round of dry hopping to give it another hit of juicy, floral aromas, totaling around six pounds of aroma hops used per barrel. Hopsters’ Newtonian and Comet Citra are supremely drinkable with a soft, pillowy mouth feel thanks to the proprietary blend of salt additions with which we treat the brewing water.
Freshness & Shelf Life
New England IPAs are bursting with flavors and aromas that fade quickly, similar to the shelf life of freshly baked bread or the beauty of a bouquet of fresh cut flowers. We suggest that all New England IPAs be kept refrigerated and enjoyed within one week of brewing for optimal taste. Come in to the Hopsters brewpub in Newton for guaranteed fresh, juicy New England IPAs on draft and in crowlers to take home.
